HISTORY……
About the Founder
Babirye Namutebi Imelda, a mother of four and co-founder of Darraine Stitches, is the Director of Darraine Cerebral Palsy Organization (Darraine CPO). Inspired by her journey raising an 11-year-old son with cerebral palsy (Athetosis type), she has turned her pain into a mission to support mothers of children with cerebral palsy and their families.
Her Journey
At the age of 20, Babirye gave birth to twins via emergency C-section. While her daughter developed typically, her son was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at six months old. This life-changing moment introduced her to a world of hospital visits, financial struggles, stigma, and loneliness. Determined to give her son a dignified life, she realized many mothers like her were silently struggling.
The Darraine Movement
In 2022, she organized the first Darraine Stitches Charity Event on her son’s birthday. The event provided support to special needs mothers, raised awareness, and offered medical education. Inspired by its success and the overwhelming call for continuous support, she founded Darraine CPO in 2023,formally registered in 2025.
